Weekends- Matakana

Matakana & Northern Beaches

Let us show you a weekend in Matakana.

Rest your head.

Tepee Matakana is the spot to stay. It is a unique experience, done really well. You almost don't feel like you are in NZ staying here - well apart from the sheep that casually stroll past your tent. Breakfast and coffee is included in the price of the stay! Weekends book out months in advance so book here asap.

We stayed here when Goldie was 2 weeks old!
Smoothie bowls and coffee delivered straight to your teepee.

Markets baby.

Matakana Village Farmers Markets are pretty much a must do when in town and its well worth it. So many delicious food stalls and good coffee - we recommend doing breakfast or lunch here and eat it by the river, while listening to live music. This market gets suuuper busy so if you dont like them crowds - get there early.

Eat good food.

One of our absolute favourite cafes is The Farmers Daughter in Omaha. A little waterside cottage cafe with their own produce garden. The most amazing menu, a playground and massive garden area for kids, good coffee and yum treats. You have to go here.

Also we love Jin Jin - an asian fusion restaurant in the heart of Matakana. They have created a beautiful, almost calming space and a delicious menu.

For the Groms.

Matakana Country Park. The groms will love it. Pretty good cafe - get the freshly squeezed orange. Crazy big playground. Pony riding. Train rides. Its real fun and in a beautiful setting.

The playground has these crazy big play sculptures.
The horse may or may not be doing a massive wee in this photo!

So many good beach spots around Matakana - Tawharanui and Omaha are two spots we highly recommend. You wont regret either. Both get good surf and beautiful.

This part of NZ is beautiful. We hope you love it.
